Grimm's Stash

My Grimm’s Journey

This is my personal journey of how I started collecting Grimm’s wooden toys.

The COVID Blues

During the COVID lockdown, I found myself constantly looking for things to brighten up my mood.  Having recently gave birth (to Miss.2), being confined to the house, and not being able to see my family and friends made me sad.

Naturally when I first saw the Grimm’s rainbow, I knew we had to have it.  Once it arrived, we played with it instantly, and made many things with it (flatllays and stacks).  The Internet has many wonderful resources to show you how to build with just one rainbow.

My Addiction Became My Collection

After getting the rainbow, I joined a wooden toys Facebook group. That is where I fell down the rabbit hole. I saw builds, ball runs, flat lays – all created using wooden toys. My eyes were opened to the world of wooden toys and I was determined to find open-ended toys that would keep my kids entertained. Fast forward to now, my kids still play with these toys 2 years later. Although these toys can get pricey, these toys have given me a way to relive my childhood and tap into my creativity again, and that to me is priceless.

Favorite Toys – Miss 2

  1. Grimm’s Flower Stacking Tower – she likes taking them apart and putting the pieces back together. There are pre-drilled holes on each flower layer. She also likes to put the celebration ornaments into the holes. It fits perfectly.
  2. Grimm’s Small Wooden Balls – perfect for little hands to roll around and ball runs.
  3. Grimm’s Pebbles – she loves stacking these.

Favorite Toys – Mr. 5

  1. Grimm’s Rainbow – Mr. 5 likes to make ball runs out of the rainbows as well as flat lays and stacks. We bought some templates from Etsy and I printed them out and laminated them so he can make them whenever he wants.
  2. Grimm’s Cars – They roll so smoothly. My kids like putting “people” (pegs) in the cars and drive them around.
  3. Grimm’s Celebration Rings/Ornaments – Mr. 5 enjoys decorating with the celebration rings and ornaments. He especially likes to find the ornaments that he thinks relates to what we are celebrating and place them in the holder.

My Favorite Sets

Besides the obvious large 12 piece rainbow, my favorite sets are the ones with odd shapes since I enjoy making flatlays. For that reason, my favorites are the snake puzzle, butterfly puzzle, hearts, and large color spiral.

Where to buy Grimm’s?

If you are in the United States, my favorite non-affiliated retailers are:

Bella Luna – they have Star Coins Rewards where you spend $1 to get 1 star coin and 100 star coins equals $10 that you can use on a future purchase.

Merci Milo – lovely small shop with lots of interesting products.

You can find the Grimm’s store locator here.
