Detailed Review on Magna-Tiles vs. Connetix: Which One to Choose?

Magna-Tiles VS Connetix

Are you having trouble deciding if you should get Magna-Tiles are Connetix? Let’s do a thorough comparison and help you decide!

Let’s start by saying that magnetic tiles are a great investment and one of the best open-ended STEM toy available for kids.  Magnetic tiles are designed to support cognitive and motor development.  They allow kids to explore building, tap into their creativity, imagination, and learning through play.  It is just fun for the whole family.

There are lots of magnetic tile brands out there, but Magna-Tiles and Connetix are two of the more popular brands.

Please note that I have been a brand rep for both companies. This post is not sponsored or endorsed by either companies, and the opinion is my own. With that said, let’s compare these magnetic tile brands to see which one is right for your family!

Look and Feel

Here is how the square tiles compared.

The base measurement of Magna-Tiles and Connetix is 3 inches (7.62 cm). The square tiles are 3×3 inches. Each tile has rounded edges and holes that you can thread a string through.

Magna-Tiles have smaller magnets with one side of the tile engraved with the company logo. The logo is rough to the touch, but doesn’t affect builds. Magna-Tiles have a criss-cross lattice design that makes it strong enough to withstand being dropped or being accidentally stepped on without it easily breaking. However, this also means that there are more visible lines on each magnetic tile.

When 10 Magna-Tiles are stacked together, it weighs around 10.3 oz.

Connetix have slightly bigger magnetics for stronger hold. Both sides have smooth surface and more clear in appearance. Connetix have a beveled (angled) design (to be more scratch resistant). There is a clear X line appears within the square tile.

When 10 Connetix tiles are stacked together, it weighs around 11 oz.

Safety and Durability

Magna Tiles are made of non-MABS plastic that is also free from BPA, phthalates, latex, and other toxic materials.  It’s also compliant with U.S., E.U., and other international safety regulations.

Connetix tiles are made of non-toxic ABS plastic that is BPA, Lead, and Phthalate free, making it non-toxic and safe for 3+ year old.

Both Connectix and Magna-Tiles are sealed using ultrasonic welding with rivets, providing strength and resistance to temperature changes and corrosion.
