Company Background
Raduga Grez is a family run toy business in Russia. They use only solid wood locally grown and are strongly against wood wasting. As such, Raduga Grez will use wood with marks on it. Their toys are handcrafted and are made from solid pieces of wood and dip dyed in non toxic water based paint. The paint leaves a matte finish with a grippy texture and visible wood grain.
Animal Tetris Building Blocks
The Raduga Tetris Animal Building Block set comes with 26 blocks in a reusable and recyclable Raduga Grez brand box (carton). Some of the blocks resemble Tetris pieces. There are animal elements as well such as triangular pieces as ears or tails, a half spheres for nose.

While the length of each Raduga Grez block varies, the width of each block is 4cm.
The blocks are made from linden wood and stained with child-safe water-based dyes which retain a pleasant scent of wood and a calming tactile experience of a toy.
It is recommended for children age 3 years and up.
My First Impression
This was our very first set of Raduga Grez blocks. I was expecting a big heavy box for some reason. However, it was pretty light and compact as it came in a recyclable carton box. This makes it easy for storage. The colors of this set is very calming. It has a lot of neutral colors and reminds me of nature. I also appreciate that there was no strong smell that comes from these blocks.
Most importantly, both of my kids (ages 3 and 6) were able to play with these blocks with ease. Check out their masterpieces below.

So how does this Raduga Grez block set compare to other popular wooden toy brands like GRIMM’s?
Like Raduga Grez, GRIMM’s blocks are build on a 4cm scale and are also painted with non toxic, waterbased colored stains. GRIMM’s have a slightly less grippy texture compared to Raduga Grez. The grip makes it easier to hold vertical builds. Raduga Grez colors are a bit softer and have more neutrals as compared to GRIMM’s vibrant colors.
